It should be noted that any Pokémon can be used in Ubers. Pokémon in that list can only be used in Ubers. There are a number of Pokémon that aren't in Ubers that can perform well in the tier. That will also be covered later in this guide.

Tier Differences

Ubers is a vastly different tier than any other tier. Many Pokémon only have checks, they don't have true counters. This means you will have to build your team to be able to at least check every Pokémon if you can't counter it. Entry hazards are not as common as they are in other tiers because of the sheer power of some of these Pokémon. They are not required to do well in Ubers, but some Pokémon absolutely do need them to get a bunch of KOs. Rock Polish Groudon for example hits for around 88% on a lot of the tier with one of its damaging moves. By using Stealth Rock in this situation, you are able to get OHKOs. Stall in general is a lot harder to pull off because taking a full hit from many of these Pokémon inflicts a large amount of damage. Due to this, Toxic Spikes is really not a move that is recommended to use. In this tier especially, you really need to know the order of Speed. That can ultimately determine if you win or lose games.

Weather's effect on the metagame

Similar to what OU has become in the fifth generation, Ubers has many teams that depend on weather to do well. The weather is a very powerful force in making teams. The biggest flaw with weather teams is if you lose control of the weather, you will be struggling to keep up. Rain is by far the most common type of team in Ubers. These teams always have a Kyogre on them and typically will use Palkia as a revenger by equiping it with a Choice Scarf. The Kyogre set there is some variety, though bulky sets are most recommended for offensive rain teams just so you can have the weather advantage. Sun teams are slightly less popular mainly because it is hard for them to combat rain teams. These teams rely on Groudon to change the weather. Some also rely on Groudon to sweep, which it can under the right circumstances and support. Ho-Oh is common on sun teams and it can hit very hard with Sacred Fire in the sun and Brave Bird when it is damaging a fire resisting Pokémon. Sand teams generally are hard to pull of because of how powerful the Pokémon are in ubers compared with keeping sand active. While Tyranitar isn't bad, the trouble is it is very weak to fighting attacks and normal weak to ground, water, grass, and bug. Most of those attack types are common in Ubers making Tyranitar not last long so weather control is quickly lost. Building the various weather teams will be covered later in this guide.

Trick Room

Trick room is not something that is recommended in Ubers play. The first problem is it only can work against some teams, not all since not all teams rely on first strike to win. The second problem is the effect only lasts four turns. Giving up a turn that could be spent healing or damaging to reverse the turn order is a very big price in Ubers just because of the power involved. Dialga is probably the best Trick Room user due to its high defenses coupled with very high Special Attack, good HP, and mediocre Speed, making it move slower than others normally. Bronzong, Slowking, and Palkia can also be good users of Trick Room. Still another problem with Trick Room is finding abusers of it. You have to resort to using totally different EV spreads just for this. Many of the Pokémon that can abuse it don't perform well when Trick Room isn't in effect.

Building an offensive team

Building an offensive team is the easiest type of team to build in Ubers. Offensive teams sometimes use entry hazards, but mainly its just Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock is very helpful in dealing with many of the Pokémon such as Ho-Oh who take increased damage from rock attacks. Deoxys-S is a common lead for this type of team because it has the highest Speed of all Pokémon making it able to always get off at least one entry hazard. Groudon is sometimes used as a lead for these type of teams because it has a lot of bulk allowing it to easily get off Stealth Rock. If you don't want to have entry hazards on your offensive team, you may want to consider an antilead. Antileads focus on disrupting other leads or defeating them. Deoxys-A is a great example of an antilead because it has very high offensive powers and can strike many Pokémon for double damage with the attacks in its movepool. A mixed Rayquaza is also a good example of an antilead because it, too gets a wide selection of moves and also has access to a priority move. It is a lot more bulky than Deoxys-A who has almost nonexistent defenses. Darkrai is another common antilead that likes to put the opponent to sleep with Dark Void. Sometimes this Pokémon is equipped with Choice Scarf making it always have first strike unless the other Pokémon is a scarf Shaymin-S or Mewtwo. Shaymin-S used to be a popular antilead being able to flinch the opponent 60% of the time with Air Slash. Sometimes the opposing lead was not able to get off any moves. You may also choose not to have a designated lead and just have a full offensive force.

Once you figure out what your primary sweeper is going to be, you need to have the other 4 Pokémon be able to take out any threats to your primary sweeper. It is highly recommended for these types of teams to have a revenge killer that has a Choice Scarf, enabling first strike with a high damaging move. A Choice Scarf Kyogre or Palkia is very common for this purpose. Kyogre brings the rain and can then strike hard with Water Spout or Surf if it has lower HP remaining. Palkia is able to hit many Pokémon's weaknesses with its great movepool. Your team should include a mix of physical and special attackers to ensure one particular Pokémon can't stop you. It is helpful for one of your Pokémon to have a move that boosts either Attack or Special Attack so you can tear through walls easier. The team needs to have momentum going for it. You can't really give your opponent much chance to set up since stall teams are naturally strong against offensive teams in this tier. Remember that your team needs to have a wide variety of attacks because coverage is more important than STAB in Ubers due to the sheer power of the Pokémon. The only major damaging Psychic move that should be used is Psystrike by Mewtwo and possible Psyshock by Latios. All other instances you should find an alternative attack type since Psychic has bad coverage. Your team definitely needs to be able to handle Lugia and Giratina as these are the hardest threats for offensive teams to handle. They both have phenominal defenses which basically require you to be boosted to deal large damage to them. Dialga is a great choice because it can handle either of them pretty well.

Sample Offensive Team

Deoxys-A

Right off the bat this Deoxys puts pressure on the opposing lead. Most Pokémon can't take two hits from it. Ice Beam takes care of the numerous dragons. Grass Knot deals very large damage to Groudon and Kyogre who immediately set up the right weather for their team. Superpower takes care of Dialga, Darkrai, Arceus-Normal, and Blissey. Extreme Speed is helpful in the event a faster Pokémon is brought in against it. Focus Sash is necessary due to its frailness.

Groudon

This Groudon is capable of plowing through entire teams that aren't prepared to face it. After using Rock Polish, it outpaces nearly anything in the game. Earthquake hits like a truck coming off of 438 Attack. Stone Edge gives excellent coverage with Earthquake. Few Pokémon can resist that move combination. Dragon Claw gives a great way to deal with Dragon-Types, particularly Giratina-O. 136 EVs in Speed allows it to hit 250 Speed which outpaces Choice Scarf Garchomp. No other Pokémon that holds Choice Scarf regularly can be outpaced by using an Adamant nature. Shaymin-S is best left for another Pokémon to take care of anyway. This allows EVs to be placed into HP so it can dish out more damage.

Arceus

With the highest Base Stat total of all Pokémon, Arceus is excellent on all teams. This variation is the most common version. It functions by first powering up itself with Swords Dance. It then strikes very hard with one of its other moves. Extreme Speed is normally the move of choice for its priority and STAB. Shadow Claw is used primarily for Giratina, but also for Lugia and Arceus-Ghost. Earthquake hits many Pokémon hard when Extreme Speed is not necessary. It is most useful against Dialga and Jirachi and can dish out Kos to both of them after a single Swords Dance. Silk Scarf boosts the damage Extreme Speed will cause without any recoil that Life Orb would do. The Speed EVs are mainly for outpacing other Arceus like this.

Kyogre

Kyogre acts as a fail safe Pokémon. It can revenge KO most Pokémon in the game. When it is at full HP, Water Spout is capable of OHKO'ing multiple Pokémon. Surf is more for later game so it can still hit with a Water-Type move. Thunder is always used due to the increased paralysis rate and power. It also will always hit in the rain Kyogre summons. Ice Beam is for the many Dragon-Types there are.

Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a main sweeper the team uses. With its vast movepool, it is able to crush many Pokémon. Aura Sphere is helpful for it since it gets rid of Darkrai and Dialga. both of them can be difficult to take down. Flamethrower helps against Scizor, Forretress, Ferrothorn, Jirachi, and the occasional Grass-Type Pokémon on a sun team. Ice Beam gets rid of dragons who are the most dominant type in this tier. Pystrike is mainly to get rid of Blissey and Chansey since they can get in the way of Mewtwo's sweep. It also goes right through Calm Mind users.

Darkrai

Everyone plays Darkrai differently. This version is a more bulky one since it will end up using Calm Mind to boost its Special Defense in addition to its Special Attack. Dark Void is a move many players fear with its 85% accuracy to put the opponent to sleep. It also is faster than most Pokémon. Substitute is to avoid getting status conditioned and to help it be able to boost its stats without fear of a crit KO'ing it. It really helps against other Darkrai since they have to rely on Focus Blast to hit since I will be immune to Dark Void. The only downside to this Darkrai is it isn't able to hit Dialga or other Darkrai hard since it doesn't have Focus Blast.

Building a stall team

Building an effective stall team in Ubers is very difficult to to the extreme offensive stats of some of the Pokémon. If you aren't careful, the opponent could set up then proceed to sweep you. Choosing the right lead is always difficult for this type of team because you need to decide what hazards you want to use and what Pokémon you want to base the team around. Deoxys-S is still a good lead, despite being a little low on the defensive side. It can reliably get off Stealth Rock which should always be used, and frequently one layer of Spikes. It also is able to Taunt other leads so opposing teams can't get their own entry hazards set up or use other nondamaging moves. Ferrothorn is also a decent lead to use. If the opponent doesn't have Taunt, Ferrothorn can easily get up multiple layers of Spikes and also use Thunder Wave if it needs to cripple a Pokémon. Gyro Ball or Power Whip should be included since it will then be able to damage opponent's regardless of it is taunted. One may choose to use both moves since Gyro Ball will lose a lot of power from paralyzing the opponent. Leech Seed can be useful since it deals additional damage to the opponent between turns and heals your Pokémon. This tends to also cause switches which will rack up damage from Stealth Rock and Spikes. One can certainly use Ferrothorn on a team with a different lead. It does a great job checking offensive threats like Groudon, Latios and Latias if they don't have HP Fire, Giratina-O if it doesn't have HP Fire, and Kyogre. This makes it a great Pokémon for any stall team.

The question of including a Pokémon with Toxic Spikes is a hard one. If you are more interested in having one or two Pokémon that actually do large damage to the opponent, you will want to stay away from Toxic Spikes since there isn't many great Pokémon at using the move in Ubers. If you aren't having any major attackers, then Toxic Spikes could be right for your team. If you do need it, Forretress is the best Pokémon to use because it has the ability Sturdy so it can reliably get it off. It also has high Defense and mediocre Special Defense, though its HP is a little low. It also can spin away hazards you don't want to deal with. Tentacruel is another option one could use. It is still able to use Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes, but it also resists water, ice, and fire moves, all of which are common in Ubers. It also has high Special Defense to take hits well. It could use Acid Armor to boost its defense if it doesn't mind giving up a move slot for it. Roserade is probably the only other really good Pokémon that can use Toxic Spikes. It has high Speed so it is less likely to get taunted. It also can put opponent's to sleep with Sleep Powder. Its Grass Knot attack or Leaf Storm can do wonders against Kyogre and Groudon. Hidden Power Fire Ice is helpful to have so it can actually deal damage against Dragon-Types.

Ensuring the opponent can't set up to sweep you is very important on stall teams. Forcing switches is something your team needs to be able to do. Roar, Whirlwind, and Dragon Tail all perform this role, though unfortunately they have -6 priority meaning the only move they go before is Trick Room. Roar and Whirlwind unfortunately blocked by Taunt since they are a nondamaging move. The plus side to using them is it can be used against a substitute and still force a switch. Dragon Tail is unable to be taunted and has a base power of 60. It damages Substitutes, but unfortunately only causes a switch if it makes direct contact with the foe. It also only has 90 accuracy compared to 100 of Roar and Whirlwind. It does have the advatage of being supereffective against the many dragons though. If you are using Groudon, it can be a great user of Dragon Tail with its great bulk. Dialga is one of the best users of the move. It not only gets STAB but Dialga also has many key resistances and can use Bulk Up to raise its Defense to help fight off powerful Earthquakes. Dialga also typically uses Rest and Sleep Talk as a means of recovery. This Dialga is able to defeat entire teams that aren't prepared for it. Giratina is the best user of the move. It has immunity to Rapid Spin to ensure the opponent is taking damage from hazards. It also has incredible defenses. One could give the Giratina Will-o-wisp to make physical sweepers get severely crippled. While it may be unable to beat opposing Blissey, multiple other teammates can. Lugia also performs this role well with its very high defenses and access to recovery outside of Rest. It could have Toxic if one wanted to be able to beat other walls. It is not uncommon to have 2 or 3 Pokémon that can force switches with the above moves.

Stall teams also have to have a good way to deal with Latios and Mewtwo because they are very fast and have high Special Attack. If you are willing to use a Ghost Arceus, that can take care of both of them as long as you have some Special Defense EVs invested to help against Shadow Ball. Extreme Speed can be useful since both Pokémon have lower physical defense. Ferrothorn can perform well against them as long as they don't have a fire move. If it is facing Latios, Gyro Ball is the best move against it that Ferrothorn has. Otherwise Thunder Wave will help defeat them by paralyzing them. This allows your team to get first strike against them and occasionally prevent them from moving. Blissey and Chansey can do an excellent job of walling the Latios and Mewtwo though you do have to be careful of Taunt that Mewtwo will sometimes carry.

It can be helpful to have a Pokémon on this type of team that can use Wish to heal other Pokémon. Blissey and Chansey are an excellent choices because they has such high HP the Wish will almost fully heal your Pokémon. Chansey can use eviolite so its Defense Stat is not as low and it also will have higher Special Defense at the expense of not holding Leftovers. They work well against Pokémon that are special based because of their high Special Defense. Jirachi is really the only other viable Pokémon that can learn Wish. It has resistance to dragon and ice which is helpful, but unfortunately only has average defenses. Serene Grace can be helpful by turning Body Slam into a 60% chance of causing paralysis. One could then use Iron head to be able to take down opponents without them being able to move. Jirachi does fear Groudon and Kyogre unfortunately. There is no good way for it to handle either if they are at full health. Water Spout just deals too much damage. This is why entry hazards are important since Surf is a lot less powerful than a full HP Water Spout. Groudon has to be handled by some other Pokémon since Jirachi is unable to defeat it. Giratina is the best answer to defeating Groudon since it can burn it causing its Attack to go way down. Ferrothorn can strike back with Power Whip if necessary, though if the Groudon has FirePunch Ferrothorn will be OHKO'd.

Sample Stall Team

Deoxys-D

Deoxys is what I normally will lead with. It can always get Stealth Rock and usually at least 1-2 layers of Spikes up. Recover lets it live longer so it can try and get maximum hazards set up. It also combos well with its ability Pressure. Magic Coat will reflect Taunt that Deoxys-S uses or Dark Void that Darkrai will use. The only time I won't start with the Deoxys is basically against Kyogre leads. The Quagsire is much better equipped for dealing with Kyogre since Kyogre can still deal about 75% damage with Water Spout. This is why I need entry hazards down early so Kyogre won't be a nuisance later if I lose Quagsire. The EVs were geared toward Specially Defensive because more attacks tend to be special based. 252 HP is necessary for maximum HP restoration with Recover and for walling attacks.

Lugia

While Lugia normally carries Whirlwind, this one doesn't because of it having Toxic. Toxic will normally force switches fast anyway since they get worn down fast due to Lugia's high defenses paired with recovery. Pressure also eats through their PP. Calm Mind helps against Special Sweepers such as Mewtwo who think they can use their high Special Attack to break Lugia. It also will boost the damage Aeroblast deals. Aeroblast is the damaging move of choice because It hits Kyogre and Groudon for neutral damage. It is only resisted by Jirachi and Dialga. Lugia also has a nice immunity to ground moves. This works well with Toxic so the opponent just lost HP to do no damage. 248 HP lets Lugia switch in the maximum amount of times, though that shouldn't be an issue since it has Roost. 136 Speed gives it just enough to outpace Rayquaza and other base 95s. EVs were not placed in Special Defense because it will be raising that with Calm mind.

Giratina

This Giratina is really helpful for the team. It cripples physical attackers such as Groudon and Swords Dance Arceus with Will-o-wisp. Calm Mind will then allow it to take less and less damage from Special Attacks while increasing the damage it can dish out with Dragon Pulse. Dragon Tail is not present on this set because it is suppose to deal out damage and the team already has two phazers. Rest also works well with most of the team having Pressure and also can deal with Toxic, which is Giratina's main weakness otherwise since its defensive capabilities are so good. It has the helpful immunities of normal and fighting. Not even the strongest attacks can do over half damage to it after 2 Calm Minds. The EVs give Giratina maximum health and provide great defenses all around.

Dialga

Dialga is the star of the team if you want to call it that. Bulk Up makes its Dragon Tail attack do more damage and forces switches. This capitalizes fully on the entry hazards that Deoxys-D will set up. It also helps against boosted opponents. Bulk Up is also used to become better at defending against physical attacks. The Rest Sleep Talk combo is used so it has a chance to do something while it is asleep. It also gives the team a status absorber so Darkrai can be dealt with more easily. Maximum HP is necessary so it can survive many attacks. 60 Defense should be able to allow me to survive a +2 Earthquake from Arceus. The remaining were placed in Special Defense so it can take those hits better since it can't boost its Special Defense.

Arceus-Ghost

Arceus-Ghost is used as a secondary spin blocker. This will allow me to do the shuffling of their Pokemon to dish out damage without them being able to get rid of the hazards. Calm Mind lets Dragon Pulse dish out more damage while also raising my Special Defense. Dragon Pulse is chosen over Judgment so it can do damage to Arceus-Normal since that can be a big threat. Roar forces the opponent out and goes right through Substitute. It also helps against boosted opponents since Arceus-Ghost can survive almost any attack. Recover lets it take damage continually while raising its stats to become immortal. It can then take out nearly any enemy. Maximum HP and Defense are used since it will raise its special stats. 8 Speed will let it outpace Arceus-Normal since they often run 0 EVs in Speed.

Quagisre

Quagsire seems like an odd choice to put on an Ubers team because of its inferior stats. It is not inferior when used properly though. This Quagsire can take on any Kyogre without fear. Stockpile raises both of its defenses making it very hard to take out. Toxic is an all around useful move on a wall Pokemon. Earthquake can hit everything that is immune to Toxic, except for Skarmory which is rarely used anyway. Recover keeps it healthy so it can continue to devaste the opponent's team.

Threat List
Pokémon Threat Level How To Handle
Chansey Low level threat Giratina and Dialga wall it.
Mewtwo Low level threat Lugia and Giratina stall it.
Mew Low level threat It gets hit with poison and gradually worn down.
Forretress Low level threat More of a nuisance than an actual threat. It is handled by nearly any team member.
Scizor Low level threat Giratina cripples it with a burn then sets up. Lugia sets up on choice variations.
Skarmory Low level threat Deoxys-D can use Magic Guard to block all moves Skarmory does that are threatening. It is more annoying than anything.
Blissey Low level threat Giratina and Dialga wall it.
Tyranitar Low level threat Giratina can cripple it with a burn. Quagsire easily defeats it.
Lugia Low level threat Lugia and Quagsire poison it. Dialga walls it.
Ho-Oh Low level threat Lugia and Quagsire poison and then stall it.
Blaziken Low level threat Giratina, Arceus-Ghost, and Lugia all wall it.
Salamence Low level threat Lugia and Dialga handle it.
Latias Low level threat Dialga and Arceus-Ghost handle it. Lugia occasionally deals with it.
Latios Low level threat See above.
Kyogre Low level threat Quagsire defeats Kyogre easily.
Groudon Low level threat Quagsire and Lugia can poison it then wall it. In Lugia's case, it may stall it with Roost before poisoning if it is not a Swords Dance Groudon.
Rayquaza Low level threat Arceus-Ghost and Lugia take care of it.
Jirachi Low level threat Dialga walls it. Quagsire can hit it with Earthquake.
Deoxys-A Medium level threat Giratina can hit it with Dragon Pulse after taking damage from Shadow Ball.
Deoxys-S Low level threat Magic Coat typically leaves them taunted allowing me free set up.
Garchomp Low level threat Lugia walls it while threatening it with Toxic. Arceus-Ghost can Dragon Pulse it.
Dialga Low level threat Quagsire deals with it. Lugia walls the special variations of it while Giratina burns physical versions.
Palkia Low level threat Dialga is the best Pokémon I have to defeat it. Arceus-Ghost can do ok against it.
Giratina Low level threat Dialga takes care of it. Lugia will sometimes toxicstall it.
Manaphy Medium level threat Quagsire has immunity to Surf, but can only deal small amounts of damage to it since the weather will be rain.
Darkrai Medium level threat Once a Pokemon becomes asleep, Quagsire poisons it then it can be stalled. Dialga can strike it with Dragon Tail if it hasn't used Nasty Plot.
Shaymin-S Low level threat Dialga and Lugia work together to deal with it.
Arceus Medium level threat. The Swords Dance variety is the most dangerous version if I can't burn it.
Ferrothorn Low level threat Giratina burns it. Hazards end up doing the most damage to it.
Thundurus High level threat The team doesn't have a great way to deal with it based on its movepool. Ones without HP Ice can be dealt with by Giratina.
Reshiram Low level threat Dialga and Lugia wall it. Quagsire hits it with Earthquake.
Zekrom Low level threat Quagsire can threaten it with Earthquake. Dialga can normally take care of it.
Landorus Medium level threat Giratina burns it.

Building a rain team

Rain team's are easy to build. They utilize Kyogre to summon infinite rain then multiple Pokémon that can abuse the weather. Pokémon that are on these teams might have Swift Swim, an ability that doubles the Pokémon's Speed in the rain. They then strike with hard hitting moves. Pokémon on these teams often have the move Thunder which not only will hit every time in the rain, but also has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target. These type of teams work very well because they have a natural advantage over every other type of team. Palkia is also a staple on rain teams. It has very high stats in general and can deal large damage with Surf while it is raining and Spacial Rend when it isn't. It also uses Thunder to strike down Water and Flying-type foes. Fire Blast is common for it to have even on a rain team because if the team goes against a sun team, it will be able to strike very hard with a chance to burn. Manaphy is a very powerful Pokémon on this type of team. Using Tail Glow, it is able to raise its Special Attack 3 levels. This can immediately make Manaphy very dangerous. It also can fully heal itself with Rest without any drawbacks in the rain thanks to Hydration. Being able to to get outpaced fairly easily is one of Manaphy's weaknesses. This can be remedied by giving Manaphy a Salac Berry. This item boosts Manaphy's Speed once Manaphy is below 25% of its HP. It then uses Rest to heal up then continues sweeping. Latios is very useful on this type of team because it resists the Electric and Grass-type attacks that will be thrown at your team. It can deal devastating damage with Thunder and Dragon Pulse thanks to Soul Dew. This item multiplies Latios's Special Attack and Special Defense by 1.5. These can be further increased by using Calm Mind.

Like all teams, a rain team will commonly have a wall. Ferrothorn is a decent choice because it crushes other Kyogre and can defeat all Groudon who don't have FirePunch. It also can paralyze opponents which will make them easy targets for your team to take out. In the rain, Ferrothorn also gets some protection from fire attacks. Chansey and Blissey can still be used and make excellent special walls with their high HP and Special Defense. They also can use Wish to heal your team.

Building a sun team

Sun teams have a medium level of difficulty in building in Ubers. All sun teams have Groudon on them. Once Groudon hits the field, the weather will change to sun until either a weather changing move is used or a Pokémon with a weather changing ability hits the field. The set your Groudon runs really depends on the rest of the team, however, generally a more bulky set is preferred so it can enter the battle multiple times to change the weather back to sun. The rest of the team should be able to capitalize on the weather Groudon brings. Reshiram is an excellent Pokémon for these teams. It should be known that Reshiram can 2HKO anything with Blue Flare when the weather is sunny if it holds Choice Specs. Without Choice Specs it can still dish out a lot of damage, but it can't get some 2HKOs that Choice Specs provides. Sometimes a Choice Scarf set is used because then Reshiram can revenge KO with Blue Flare or Draco Meteor. Those two Pokémon form the basic core of every sun team.

Ho-Oh is often used because it can dish out incredible damage in the sun with its Sacred Fire attack. It has a power of 225 in the sun coming off of more than 300 Attack which makes it hit exremely hard. This can further be boosted by Life Orb which is common on Ho-Oh since it helps it get key KOs. It turns Brave Bird into a devastating move. This will always deal large damage without being weather reliant, though Ho-Oh does take recoil damage. Earthquake can be used as a coverage move since it hits many Pokémon in the tier for double damage that resist fire moves. Roost is utilized to heal off the Life Orb recoil and other sources of damage Ho-Oh takes. Teams that do use Ho-Oh should use a Pokémon that has Rapid Spin since Stealth Rock takes away 50% of Ho-Oh's HP and also does 25% to Reshiram. It may be tempting to put a Fire Arceus on the team. The trouble is the team quickly becomes weak to water attacks. Solarbeam is not an attack one should rely on since the weather changes easily in Ubers. Having Arceus be a Grass-Type if you use it has the benefit of hitting Kyogre and Groudon very hard with Judgement. It can use the TM for teaching Fire Blast so it still gets a fire move to take advantage of the weather. The other two moves are really more of preference moves. One could use Thunder to hit Lugia hard if it ends up raining, though the shaky 50% accuracy in the sun is a big risk. Thunderbolt is an alternative that has 100% accuracy regardless of the weather, though it only has a 10% chance of causing paralysis. Extreme Speed could be an option to finish off weakened opponents. Spacial Rend is a great option that covers the various Dragon-Type Pokémon.

At this point your team should have 4-5 Pokémon on it. To round off the team you want to spot potial problematic Pokémon. If water or ice Pok&ecaute;mon could be problematic, Dialga is an excellent choice since it resists Thunder and Surf. It also only takes neutral damage from ice attacks. If Darkrai is a problem, Mewtwo can solve that problem with Aura Sphere. Mewtwo actually does well all around making it great on any type of team that is offensive. The biggest thing to remember with a sun team is to always maintain control of the weather because if it stays as rain, you will lose.

Sample Sun Team

Deoxys-S

Deoxys-S has two tasks. The first is to prevent the opponent from setting up entry hazards. Being that the team has a Stealth Rock weakness, it is important to be able to stop it. It also has to set entry hazards so Pokémon with Sturdy will be able to get OHKO'd by Reshiram. It can do both tasks very well.

Groudon

Groudon is the Pokémon the team relies on the most. It sets up the weather to be sunny. This fuels the team greatly. It likes to paralyze enemies with Thunder Wave so the slower team members can defeat them easily. Earthquake hits everything for a good bit of damage. Stone Edge is for anything that resists Earthquake or is immune to it. Dragon Claw assists in dealing with dragons. The EVs give it excellent survivability.

Ho-Oh

Ho-Oh's main job is to sweep the opposing team with its high physical attack stat. Sacred Fire deals very high damage in the sun. When the opponent survives, they also have a 50% chance of getting burned. That alone makes Groudon not want to face Ho-Oh. Brave Bird is used to hit Latios, Latias, Kyogre, and Palkia hard. Earthquake is to help against Reshiram, Zekrom, and Dialga. Roost lets it heal off the damage it takes from attacks and the recoil from Life Orb.

Mewtwo

Mewtwo acts like a wild card for this team. It is able to take on most Pokémon and come out on top. With its wide variety of move types, it is able to use Expelt Belt well and hit many Pokémon for a large amount of damage. Kyogre unfortunately is not able to be handled by Mewtwo. Darkrai is the biggest threat that Mewtwo takes care of.

Arceus-Grass

Arceus-Grass is a defensive tank this team has. It is able to take several attacks before going down with the EVs it has. It also works well with the Calm Mind + Recover combo. It stops special sweepers very well, while also setting up to dish out more damage. Judgement hits very hard against Groudon and Kyogre most specifically. Being a Grass-Type also gives it an edge against Kyogre's Water Spout and Thunder attacks while also being able to take Earthquakes easily from Groudon. Fire Blast is used to get a second high damaging move, though Dragon Pulse could be used to gain coverage over Dragon-Types. It doesn't have EVs invested in Special Attack because its primary purpose is to tank attacks and build itself up.

Reshiram

Reshiram can just destroy anything with its Blue Flare attack in the sun. It can even 2HKO a Blissey to give an idea of its power. In the event the opponent survives, it has a 20% chance to burn them. Draco Meteor will hit hard no matter what the weather may be. Fire Blast is to give another fire attack due to Reshiram's somewhat limited movepool since Blue Flare only has 8 PP. Dragon Pulse is a sweeping move for any weather.

Building a sand team

Building an effective sand team in Ubers is very tricky. The numerous rain teams can prove to be difficult to handle especially since they have attacks that inflict double damage on many of the Pokémon that get a boost in the sand. While it may be tempting to lead with Tyranitar or Hippodon, it is recommended not to because you don't want either of them to immediately get crippled. Tyranitar is very helpful in dealing with Latios for example. A neutral lead like Dialga works great. It has only two weakness, neither of which are commonly carried by opposing leads. Thunder Wave is a great move for this Dialga because sand teams are not always super quick. Being able to outpace the other teams is important to defeating them. Your team should focus on being bulky if you want it to be really effective. Not all of your team has to have sandstorm immunity. You just have to be able to play around it. Mewtwo or Latios can be very helpful on sand teams because sand teams often are primarly physical attackers. This will help so the team isn't crushed against strong physical walls. You need to make sure your team has a solid answer to Kyogre. It is recommended to have at least 2 Pokémon that can deal with it. Dialga is one that works for sure because it resists Kyogre's Water Spout and Thunder attacks. Blissey and Chansey can work well to stall out Kygore's Water Spout. Chansey will be able to use Eviolite to improve its defenses, while Blissey gets good HP recovery with Leftovers. Using Toxic is a good method to bring down the Kyogre and is safe. You can then wall Kyogre between Protect and Wish. Seismic Toss can be used against Kyogre by either of them if you don't have a need to set up healing, but it is recommended to do the Wish + Protect combo until Kyogre is out of Water Spout.

Landorus is one of the strongest sweepers sand teams get. Sand Force multiplies the damage it does with ground and rock moves by 1.3. This can make its Earthquake deal more damage than Groudon even. Rock Polish is highly recommended since there are a number of Pokémon that can outpace Landorus even when Landorus is a Jolly Nature. This will enable it to always have the first strike unless the opponent uses a priority move. Swords Dance could be used to make it deal devasting damage, but it does require your Landorus set to be more bulky and run a little less Speed to get additional EVs for that purpose. Excadrill is another good sweeper sand teams get. With Sand Rush, it will be outpacing everything in the game in a sandstorm. Swords Dance is very commonly used so Excadrill can sweep well. Air Balloon is a typical item so an Earthquake can't hit Excadrill if it hasn't taken a hit yet. Garchomp should also be considered when constructing a sand team. It has 130 Base Attack, and 102 Base Speed which allow it to strike hard and fast. It also has good bulk which isn't common on Pokémon that have high Speed and an offensive stat. The moves it gets provide excellent coverage. It also has a 20% chance to evade attacks while a sandstorm is brewing.

Sand teams also perform best when they have at least one wall Pokémon. Blissey and Chansey are common since they can defeat Kyogre. Jirachi is one Pokémon that can also do the job well. There are two primary sets it could use. The first one takes advantage of Jirachi's Serene Grace ability. It uses Body Slam to paralyze the opponent then repeatedly uses Iron Head to flinch the opponent while healing with Wish when necessary. The second set is a Calm Mind set that gradually gets harder to take down with special attacks. Grass Knot is used as a damaging move because it can strike both Groudon and Kyogre for double damage; it also has maximum Base Power because of the weight of Groudon and Kyogre. Water Pulse is decent other damaging move that has a chance to cause confusion. As earlier mentioned, Dialga can fit this role with its excellent typing.

Sample Sand Team

Tyranitar
  • Tyranitar @ Leftovers
  • Trait: Sand Stream
  • EVs: 252 HP / 12 Atk / 104 Def / 136 SDef / 4 Spd
  • Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
  • Crunch
  • Stealth Rock
  • Earthquake
  • Dragon Tail

Tyranitar is used first generally because it will change the weather to sand right from the start. It is slower than Kyogre and Groudon which makes sure that it is the one that gets the weather. Stealth Rock punishes foes for switching which helps deter the opponent from messing with the weather. Crunch hits a number of Pokémon hard in Ubers including Mewtwo, Lugia, Latios, and Latias. Earthquake is used to deal damage to those weak to ground such as Dialga. Dragon Tail forces the opponent to switch which compliments Stealth Rock. It works great against boosting sweepers since they will lose all their stat changes. It also helps to scout the opponent's team since it moves last. The EVs allow it to survive strong attacks from both spectrums while outpacing Tyranitar that run no EVs in Speed. Adamant nature gives its Attack a good boost since it will not likely be outpacing opponent's.

Landorus
  • Landorus @ Life Orb
  • Trait: Sand Force
  • EVs: 8 HP / 248 Atk / 252 Spd
  • Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
  • Earthquake
  • Stone Edge
  • Rock Polish
  • Substitute

Landorus is the first real abuser of sand this team has. Its ability raises the damage it does with Earthquake and Stone Edge while the weather is sandstorm. This actually can make its Earthquake attack more threatening than Groudon's. Between Earthquake and Stone Edge it is able to hit nearly any Pokémon for at least neutral damage. Substitute comes in handy so it can get off a move against a foe that would otherwise threaten it. It also is useful against Toxic users. Rock Polish makes sure it will move before the opposing Pokémon, even if they hold a Choice Scarf. Once it gets off Rock Polsih, it is very hard to stop unless the weather gets changed. The EVs give it high power and Speed.

Dialga
  • Dialga @ Leftovers
  • Trait: Pressure
  • EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
  • Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
  • Thunder Wave
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Aura Sphere
  • Fire Blast

Dialga may not get any stat increases with the sand, but it can still fair well in the weather. Thunder Wave cripples its opponents making them slower than my team. This also works well with Jirachi's Iron Head attack so they have even less chance of making a move. Dragon Pulse lets it take on other Dragon-types. Aura Sphere gets really good coverage in Ubers. Fire Blast helps against some random threats such as Scizor that could set up on it. This Dialga needs to dish out damage well while also absorbing attacks which lead to the EV spread it has.

Jirachi
  • Jirachi @ Leftovers
  • Trait: Serene Grace
  • EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SDef
  • Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
  • Body Slam
  • Iron Head
  • Protect
  • Wish

Jirachi may not be the biggest damage dealer, but it performs its tasks quite well for the team. First of all it paralyzes opponent's by using Body Slam. It then proceeds to use Iron Head repeatedly using Wish when necessary to heal. Protect helps against choice users so I know what to best do about them. It also works well with Wish so I can guarantee it gains HP. It also helps against low PP moves such as Water Spout. Foes are also worn down by the sandstorm while being unable to move. Maximum HP is necessary to ensure that any Pokémon that receives the Wish gets 202 HP back. The 56 Defense EVs let it survive a +2 Earthquake from Arceus. 200 Special Defense EVs help it live against the many special attacks in Ubers. Adamant nature is used to get slightly more power on its damaging moves.

Arceus
  • Arceus @ Leftovers
  • Trait: Multitype
  • EVs: 252 HP / 248 Atk / 8 Spd
  • Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
  • Swords Dance
  • ExtremeSpeed
  • Earthquake
  • Shadow Claw

Arceus performs a sweeping role. First it will use Swords Dance to double its Attack, making it over 700. It can then deal out very large damage with Extreme Speed and not have to worry about striking first. This damage could be further boosted by using Life Orb instead of Leftovers, but then it gets KO'd easier due to the sandstorm. Earthquake makes sure that Dialga will not wall it and also allows it to inflict decent damage against Ferrothorn. Shadow Claw gets rid of Giratina who can otherwise be a pest for it to get rid of. The EVs allow it to inflict large damage while still being able to withstand some hits. Adamant nature is used since it will primarily use Extreme Speed, thus reducing the need for increased Speed.

Mewtwo
  • Mewtwo @ Life Orb
  • Trait: Pressure
  • EVs: 68 Def / 188 SAtk / 252 Spd
  • Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
  • Aura Sphere
  • Psystrike
  • Calm Mind
  • Recover

Mewtwo makes another threat for the team right away. It performs well in any weather. This is important since the weather often changes in Ubers. Psystrike delivers a powerful blow using Mewtwo's Special Attack while using the opponent's Defense stat. This move alone lets it defeat Blissey easily. Aura Sphere helps it to defeat the numberous Darkrai and Dialga. Calm Mind can be used to improve Mewtwo's offense while letting it take less damage from Special Attacks. Recover helps when combined with Calm Mind so it can easily get its stats raised multiple levels. It also helps since Life Orb takes away 10% of Mewtwo's HP each time it attacks. Defense investment was chosen over HP investment because Life Orb makes HP EVs really go to waste. This allows it to better survive physical blows since it can raise its Special Defense. Maximum Speed is necessary to tie other Mewtwo and move before Darkrai.

Threat List

Chansey

Chansey with an eviolite has very high Special Defense and reasonable Defense. It loses the recovery of Leftovers, but the additional bulkyness can really make up for that. It can paralyze or poison the opponent with Thunder Wave and Toxic respectively. Like Blissey, it also uses Wish to help its teammates. Physical attacks are the best way to get rid of Chansey since it has the lowest Base Defense of all Pokémon.

Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a very powerful sweeper in Ubers. It gets a very large movepool and has incredible Speed to back it up. Only Deoxys-A has a higher Special Attack than Mewtwo. Psystrike is able to make Chansey and Blissey get destroyed since it uses Mewtwo's Special Attack and the opponent's Defense. It also can utilize taunt to prevent the opposing team to set up while setting itself up with Calm Mind. It also boasts Recover to make it even harder to take down.

Mew

Mew has incredible versatility because of being able to learn all TM and HM moves. Its stats are well rounded at 100 each. It has access to recovery moves as well. It really performs well as a team player since it can learn many stat boosting moves including Nasty Plot, Swords Dance, and Rock Polish to go with Baton Pass. It also can use support moves like Thunder Wave to cripple opponents. If you don't take Mew out fast, you could quickly face a very powerful Pokémon you can't take out.

Forretress

While not as useful as it was last generation in Ubers, it still has potential. It is the most bulky Pokémon in the tier that uses Toxic Spikes. This makes it a great asset on a stall team. It also has the Sturdy ability making it not get KO'd by just one move. Another primary reason to use Forretress is that it can learn Rapid Spin to get rid of entry hazards. Forretress does have one of the highest base defenses. It unfortunately does not have great HP to compliment it. The easiest way to get rid of Forretress is with fire moves. Setting up on Forretress can be a good way to force it out as well since it can't deal much damage offensively.

Scizor

Scizor comes in 2 main varieties. The Choice Band set is common. It uses Bullet Punch often for a priority hit that deals large damage. It will also utilize U-Turn to not only deal a good chunk of damage, but to switch out as well. Pursuit is used to play mind games with the opponent. Superpower is used to take out a Dialga that doesn't have Fire Blast. The other variety of Scizor is Swords Dance. It will attempt to set up a Swords Dance then hit your team hard with Bullet Punch and Bug Bite. Some of these sets will run Brick Break while others will run Roost as a means to recover. It is a great check to many of the speedier Pokémon since they tend to have a low Defense Stat.

Skarmory

Skarmory still has its uses even in the Ubers tier. Its great physical bulk lets it phase out Rock Polish Groudon who can tear through many teams that aren't prepared for it. It also is an excellent spiker. Sturdy ensures it can get off at least one layer of Spikes or phase if it is at full HP. Brave Bird is sometimes used to deal damage in case it gets Taunted. Toxic is used on defensive teams that have endurance.

Blissey

Blissey is one of the common special walls. It has an incredible base 255 HP. This is coupled with very high Special Defense. Blissey commonly carries either Thunder Wave to cause paralysis or Toxic to stall your Pokémon out. Seismic Toss is the damaging move of choice since it has low attacking stats. When it uses Wish, it will restore large amounts of HP to the target. Some Blissey will run Calm Mind and Ice Beam instead of Seismic Toss. Just by running Calm Mind, it prevents Manaphy from defeating it unless Manaphy gets a critical hit. The Ice Beam is used for the numerous dragons in the tier. Leftovers restores quite a bit of HP since it can exceed 700 if it is fully EV'd in HP. Physical attacks are the best method to get rid of it since it has very low Defense.

Tyranitar

Tyranitar is the bringer of sandstorms. It is used to get rid of Latios, Latias, Ho-Oh, although it has to be careful of Earthquake, Lugia, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Palkia when it isn't raining. It can set up Stealth Rock if your team needs it, while not being dead weight either. Sets that aren't using Stealth Rock should either run Choice Scarf for moving before most Pokémon or Choice Band to have incredible power. Dragon Dance isn't as useful as it is in OU because of how fast a majority of the Pokémon are in OU. It is capable of phasing with Dragon Tail. Tyranitar is handled by Aura Sphere or Focus Blast users most commonly. Earthquake is also a common method to defeat a Tyranitar.

Lugia

Lugia is not so much an offensive threat, but it is very hard to deal with because of its great defenses. It has the ability Pressure which increases the PP of moves you use against it by 1. It compliments its defenses and ability to heal itself perfectly. Toxic is one of the best ways to deal with it since most Lugia do not run Rest. It is also hard to set up against Lugia since it commonly runs Whirlwind. This makes it a great member for your team if you need a phaser and a wall.

Ho-Oh

Ho-Oh is a very powerful physical attacker. Its Sacred Fire not only has a high base power, but it also has a 50% chance of burning the opponent. Normally Ho-Oh will be used on sun teams making Sacred Fire even more powerful. It also uses Brave Bird to deal huge damage to those that resist fire moves. Earthquake is used often as well since it OHKOs Reshiram, Zekrom, and Blaziken without any recoil. It also deals large damage to Dialga. Ho-Oh will sometimes have the ability Regenerator which restores its HP by 50% upon being called back. Thankfully it can't have the move Roost if it has Regenerator. Its other ability is Pressure which compliments its large Special Defense.

Blaziken

Blaziken became uber this generation primarily because of its Dream World Ability, Speed Boost. This raises Blaziken's Speed one level after each turn. The first two moves Blaziken often does in battle are Swords Dance and Protect. After those two moves, its Attack and Speed stats are double what they started. It then proceeds to sweep with High Jump Kick and Flare Blitz / Blaze Kick. Unless your team has Arceus-Ghost or Giratina, Blaziken can be very difficult to take out. Priority attacks are the best way to beat Blaziken.

Salamence

Salamence is a great wall breaker again this generation. While it doesn't have quite as much power as Rayquaza, it has the 100 Base Speed to tie the other Pokémon with that. Dragon Dance is a set that is sometimes used due to the large amount of damage it can do and difficulty to stop. Without a dragon type resistor, it is very hard to stop this Salamence before it KO's itself with Life Orb recoil. Fire Blast is sometimes run on the Dragon Dance set as a means to get rid of Ferrothorn, Forretress, and Skarmory. Outrage is used to deal vicious damage to anything else. Earthquake is sometimes used if Fire Blast isn't used instead since it is able to KO Dialga with it. Bulkier versions of this set run Roost to try and get up 2-3 Dragon Dances then destroy everything. This is harder to do with the amount of dragon and ice attacks flying in the Ubers tier. A mixed set is great for breaking all sorts of walls since it hits very hard on a wall's weakness. Ice moves are the best way to get rid of it, though priority works well also. If a Salamence gets more than 2 Dragon Dances in, the game is basically over unless you can KO it with a priority move or have a Ferrothorn and it doesn't have Fire Blast.

Latias

While not currently in the Ubers tier, it is a very real threat in the tier. It has great Speed, and Special Defense. Its Special Attack isn't bad either, though it isn't as high as Latios. Soul Dew is a specialty item for Latias and Latios that multiplies its Special Attack and Special Defense by 1.5. This item is not legal in OU play for either of them. It makes Latias tough to take down with Special Attacks and also allows it to easily boost itself with Calm Mind. It then can proceed to sweep teams with the great coverage it gets for moves. Even Blissey can't really get in the way due to Psyshock. Powerful dragon and ice moves are the way to take it out. Darkrai is excellent to use against it because after it gets put to sleep, you are free to get in a Nasty Plot then blast it with Dark Pulse.

Latios

Latios is similar to Latias, however, it packs less Special Defense and more Special Attack. Any attack coming from Latios will hit hard unless you resist it. It is able to OHKO Groudon with Grass Knot and can severely injure Kyogre with the move as well. Dragon Dance is sometimes run to get rid of the Speed problem. The best way to take it out is with physical attacks since its Defense is rather low. Priority moves also can work well to get rid of it, particularly Shadow Sneak and Extreme Speed.

Kyogre

Kyogre is one of the most common Pokémon in Ubers. It summons a permanent rainstorm just by entering the battle. When it is at full HP, Water Spout can OHKO anything that doesn't resist it other than Chansey and Blissey. Choice Specs can still 2HKO those Pokémon since Kyogre will move before them. Choice Scarf is commonly used on Kyogre to take advantage of its Water Spout attack. Other moves it commonly carries are Thunder, Surf, and Ice Beam. Kyogre that don't have a choice item sometimes run Calm Mind and occasionally the Resttalk combo. Entire teams are built around Kyogre and its rain.

Groudon

Groudon is another physical attacker. Its Earthquake attack is strong enough that with Life Orb it does almost 70% damage to almost anything that doesn't resist it. It also is capable of increasing its Speed with Rock Polish. This is an excellent tactic to turn Groudon into a sweeper. Only Pokémon with a Base Speed of 127 or higher can outpace it if they are equiped with Choice Scarf. If you don't have any Pokémon that can do that, you should ensure your team either has a priority user, or a bulky Pokémon that can hit Groudon hard. Giratina with Will-o-wisp is a good Pokémon for this as it makes Groudon's attacks more managable. Groudon is also sometimes used as a support role utilizing Thunder Wave and Dragon Tail. It can cripple teams well with that combo. Groudon also brings eternal sunlight when it is brought into battle. Entire teams have been built around this powerful ability.

Rayquaza

Rayquaze has multiple uses offensively. It can be a mixed attacker, special sweeper, or physical sweeper. The advantage physical sweeper has it Dragon Dance for increased power and Speed. It quickly can take out foes after boosting its stats. The special sweeper set is rarely used, but it includes Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, and Thunderbolt amongst its moves. The mixed attacker is a great set because it can take on walls of all types. Rayquaza's Attack and Special Attack are so high it can 2HKO anything in the game with this set. It frequently has Outrage, Fire Blast, and Earthquake on this set. It also nullifies all weather while it is out.

Jirachi

Jirachi has the Serene Grace ability doubling the chance of effects to happen with its attacks. Body Slam is common since it will have a 60% chance of causing paralysis. This makes many Pokémon easier to handle. Iron Head is commonly run for the 60% flinch ratio and works well with Body Slam. Wish makes it a valuable team player so you can heal other Pokémon. Protect can be combined with Wish or just to scout. Some versions will run Calm Mind and special moves to make it harder to get rid of with Special Attacks. It can make a great revenge Pokémon or trick user with Choice Scarf. It also is a decent user of Trick Room if your team is in need of that.

Deoxys-A

Deoxys-A has the highest Attack and Special Attack with a monstrous 180 in each. It also has extremely poor defenses making it very fragile and susceptable to priority moves. It gets a great selection of attacks on the special side of the spectrum with a couple strong physical ones. Life Orb is extremely common on it since it is so fragile anyway. Many Deoxys-A will have Extreme Speed for situations where priority is needed. Superpower will allow it to blast Blissey who walls its special moves. Deoxys-A is always used over Deoxys because the other is inferior since both have such terrible defenses.

Deoxys-S

Deoxys-S is the fastest Pokémon there is making it great for using Taunt. This is able to ruin the opponent's set up while being able to set up since it can learn Stealth Rock and Spikes. One could consider running Light Sceen or Reflect on it to give your team some protection from attacks if you fear that Deoxys-D isn't fast enough. Some Deoxys-S will use Magic Coat which makes all your entry hazards and moves like Thunder Wave backfire. It is very reliable on getting out a layer of Spikes in addition to Stealth Rock.

Garchomp

Garchomp is on the rare Speed tier of 102, allowing it to outpace all base 100 speed Pokémon. Garchomp doesn't have very many counters. A defensive Kyogre is one of the few things that can take it on. Ferrathorn can do decently against it, but you have to be damaging it, not laying entry hazards. After a Swords Dance, it is able to get many OHKOs between Earthquake and Outrage. Yache Berry is sometimes used with this set to help combat its ice weakness. Haban Berry is more common and is used to help it survive a powerful Outrage or Draco Meteor. Choice Scarf variations make excellent revenge killers.

Dialga

Dialga is the sole dragon who isn't weak against dragon moves. This makes it great to combat other dragons. It has a dangerously high Special Attack of 150. It also gets a great assortment of moves in both sides of the spectrum. It also gets some support moves like Thunder Wave to help your team. It is one of the few good Trick Room users. This can break teams that are completely dependant on Speed to win. It is frequently seen with Choice Scarf to make up for its Speed. Leftovers is also common due to its natural bulk. Make sure your team has an answer to the Bulk Up version of Dialga because it is very hard to take down if you don't get rid of it fast.

Palkia

Palkia is another powerful Special Attacker, though it can be used as a physical one if absolutely necessary. It gets the rare move Spacial Rend that not only has high power, but also a high critical hit chance. Palkia performs very well in the rain for those types of teams since that boosts its Surf attack. Even in the sun Palkia isn't useless because it frequently carries Fire Blast. It makes an excellent revenge killer because nothing can resist all moves it does.

Giratina

The normal Giratina is one of the most defensive walls ever created. It has 150 Base HP and 120 in both defenses. It can cripple opponents with Will-o-wisp making Groudon and Garchomp much more defeatable. Note that it is not recommended letting Giratina take an Outrage just for that unless you have no other choice. Toxic is excellent on it due to its defenses, however, it lacks recovery outside of Rest. Shadow Sneak is common to finish off weakened Pokémon since it strikes first. The Pressure ability really helps it against foes. Unlike its origin forme, it is able to choose what item to hold. Being able to restore HP each turn from Leftovers really helps it.

Giratina-O

Giratina-O is more offensive threat than its other forme. It is used primarly for its priority and bulkiness. It also is used as a spin block. It occasionally carries HP Fire to get rid of Forretress. It also has immunity to ground moves thanks to Levitate.

Darkrai

Darkrai is used to disable one of the opponent's team members. It then normally sets up and attempts to sweep with Nasty Plot, Dark Pulse, and Focus Blast. It occasionally hold Choice Scarf to guarantee a first turn sleep.

Shaymin-S

Shaymin-S is normally used to make your Pokémon unable to move with Air Slash, which has a 60% chance of doing so. It also boasts Seed Flare which not only hits very hard, but has an 80% chance of lowering the target's Special Defense 2 levels. Dialga isn't safe from it either since it commonly has Earth Power. Defensive variations will run Substitute and Leech Seed to heal themself while whittling away at your HP.

Arceus

Arceus has the highest Base Stat total so it should be expected to be on most teams. There are several variations a team must be able to deal with. The most dangerous one is a set that uses Swords Dance to power up then unleashes huge damage with Extreme Speed, Earthquake, and Shadow Claw. Some sets are created as special sweepers with several types of moves. There is no one Pokémon that can defeat all of the variations since each has its own weaknesses.

Excadrill

Excadrill is a recent addition to the Ubers tier. In the sand, he can only be outpaced by a Choice Scarf Deoxys-S. He also possesses a very high Base Attack. After a single Swords Dance, it can climb to over 800 Attack. Earthquake hits like a truck against just about anything. It doesn't get Stone Edge, but it does get Rock Slide to deal with any Pokémon that are immune to Earthquake. X-Scissor is one of its better moves to round off coverage. It hits the numerous psychic-types for increased damage while also dishing out extra damage on Darkrai. Shadow Claw can be used if you want to hit a little harder on Giratina particularly against Giratina-O since it has immunity to Earthquake. The best way to eliminate Excadrill is to change the weather to rain or sun with Kyogre and Groudon respectfully. This will cut its Speed down to managable levels where it can get worn down from repeated attacks. Giratina-O acts as a good wall to Excadrill. Having Aura Sphere lets Giratina-O straight up go for a KO while having Will-o-wisp cripples Excadrill severely.

Ferrothorn

Ferrothorn may not be in the Ubers tier, but it has its uses here. It is an excellent support Pokémon. It is able to set up entry hazards, Leech Seed, and paralyze opponents. It actually has quite a bit of power which is a main difference between it and Forretress.

Thundurus

Thundurus is an often overlooked Pokémon in the tier. With Prankster it is able to use nondamaging moves before the opponent. It boasts a high Special Attack and Speed, capable of outpacing Latios and Latias. Nasty Plot makes it become a huge threat. Thunder Wave is sometimes used to guarantee a fast paralysis. The other moves it can use include Thunder or Thunderbolt depending on the team type, Grass Knot, Focus Blast, and HP Ice.

Reshiram

Reshiram is incredibly powerful at using fire attacks. When it holds Choice Specs it is capable of 2HKO'ing anything in the sun. Dragon attacks also are very powerful that it uses. Its main problem is its Speed is rather low.

Zekrom

Zekrom boasts very strong physical attacks. Its movepool is somewhat limited like Reshiram. A Choice Banded Outrage or Bolt Strike will deal vicious damage to anything. It also has the same Speed problem as Reshiram. Having a ground weakness also doesn't help it any.

Landorus

Landorus can be very threatening on sand teams. Its Earthquake and Stone Edge become deadly and able to 2HKO most Pokémon. It is capable of raising both its Speed and Attack with different moves. It acts a lot like the Rock Polish variant of Groudon.
